Aaron Diehl: Space Time Continuum
Grazie a musicisti come Aaron Diehl, c'è da ben sperare per le sorti future del jazz. Il trentenne pianista statunitense sembra possedere classe e abilità strumentale da vendere, al servizio di una promettente progettualità. Attraverso le sue composizioni si respira un'aura autenticamente genuina di jazz, sprigionante un invidiabile senso dello swing.

Dando spazio a maestri del calibro di Benny Golson e Joe Temperley, il giovane leader tesse con convinzione le sue avvolgenti armonie che profumano di inebrianti aromi: fra tutti Duke Ellington, flamenco, linguaggio post-boppistico. Sono loro due a lasciare una indelebile impronta emotiva sulle brillanti composizioni originali proposte.

Nel CD in esame non si contano i cammei solistici, tutti contraddistinti dalla sobria essenzialità melodica. Si comincia con le languide sonorità di Stephen Riley, che echeggiano l'avvolgente sax di Ben Webster con una voce che emoziona nel suo andamento palpitante. Non è da meno il rigoglioso sound ellingtoniano di Temperley, con un intervento perentorio di rilevante spessore. La tecnica rifinita, le grandi doti di musicalità e la generosa inventiva del leader fanno il resto, proiettandolo ai vertici del miglior modern mainstream di oggi.
