Dario Yassa: Sounds and Colours
Se nel precedente Equilibrist il pianista Dario Yassa era prevalentemente legato all’estetica compositiva ed esecutiva del classico trio di Bill Evans, con qualche incursione nelle asimmetrie di Thelonius Monk, in quest’ultimo lavoro, “suoni e colori“ occupano il campo in dosi più massicce contribuendo ad allargare la forbice espressiva del musicista.

Grazie anche alla presenza in tre brani del sax tenore di Rudy Manzoli che mette in mostra una voce robusta e sensuale nelle ballad, un timbro vigoroso e ruvido sui tempi mossi ed un fraseggio articolato e convincente.

Nell’arco delle nove composizioni che caratterizzano Sounds and Colours, Yassa definisce compiutamente la propria cifra stilistica che mantiene come base uno swing naturale ed elastico, ma vira di volta in volta verso ritmi danzanti dagli accenti funky come in “Alone“; oppure si perde dolcemente in melodie festose, “Children’s Voice“, gioca a nascondino con continui salti di registro, “Lampo“, o libera l’anima soul, “What I Like”.

Il tutto all’insegna della discrezione, della leggerezza e del buon gusto, con una nota di merito per “Etilometro“, brano dall’andamento dinoccolato, un poco sghembo e ricco di suggestioni.
