Manny Echzabal: Short Notice
From its melodic, passionate opener "Time Out" through the moody, inward looking "Unknown Identity," young Miami saxophonist/composer Manny Echzabal exhibits huge promise on this rolling, thrill seeking debut.

In-between those reflective bookends, Echzabal and his equally young, emphatic bandmates, rising Australian pianist Tal Cohen, nimble bassist The Smoogies, and responsive, groove setting drummer David Chiverton cut loose at every turn, making the muscular music on Short Notice at once familiar (think the winding adventures of Herbie Hancock the extended suite "New Dawn Intro/New Dawn/New Dawn Reprise" and Wayne Shorter "The Green Monk") The flying modality of the title track, where these young bucks play like they just finished listening to the best of John Coltrane's classic quartet, will set your head spinning.

The jazz world is always looking for the latest players to define it and carry it forward. Echzabal and his cohorts are doing just that.
