Glenn White: Sacred Machines
La presenza di Jamie Baum, flautista, compositrice, arrangiatrice di gran classe ma soprattutto musicista spesso avventurosa, faceva sperare in un disco di livello, che solleticasse la curiosità del’ascoltatore.

E invece Sacred Machines, delude, e profondamente, perché risulta anonimo, uguale a mille altri prodotti di modern jazz presenti sul mercato, a tratti decisamente noioso.

Ben suonato s’intende, e ci mancherebbe, ma senz’anima e con poco cuore, dove nemmeno l’introduzione del tanto à la page Fender Rhodes, riesce a dare un qualche scrollatina ad una musica piuttosto incolore. Così che l’unico brano veramente interessante risulta essere l’ultimo, guarda caso a nome Baum.

Scansione ritmica articolata, flauto e sax tenore che disegnano arabeschi poco calligrafici ma tremendamente efficaci, il pianoforte che abbandona comode armonizzazioni per affondare con frasi volitive cariche di tensione, fanno di “Aftermath“ un brano finalmente consono alle qualità del gruppo.
