Kurt Rosenwinkel Standards Trio: Reflections
Il chitarrista americano è affiancato dai validissimi Eric Revis al contrabbasso e Eric Harland alla batteria, i quali offrono un supporto implacabile e lo assistono in maniera partecipativa nelle riletture dense e appassionate di autentici gioielli.
Si va da capitoli di monkiana memoria come "Reflections" e "Ask Me Now," a pezzi imprescindibili di storia jazzistica, come "Ana Maria" e "Fall" targati Wayne Shorter, fino ad altri passaggi di indiscutibile caratura, da "You've Changed" (Carey/Fisher) a "You Go to my Head" (Coots/Gillespie).
Ma non sono solo i titoli eclatanti a determinare la riuscita di Reflections. Ad emergere è la grande passione di Rosenwinkel per i grandi maestri e il suo amore per le trame chitarristiche di raffinata bellezza e al contempo di linearità espressiva.
L'album si mantiene su un andamento pacato e di grande equilibrio tra melodia e timbri, senza prendere mai strade impervie. Il trio si muove con compattezza nelle trame degli standard e il leader riesce a piegare verso uno stile personale ogni brano proposto. Il suo tocco caldo, netto e senza sbavature, è il tratto distintivo dell'intero lavoro e anche il motivo per il quale vale la pena mettersi all'ascolto di un repertorio interpretato, dal punto di vista formale, in maniera non certo sconvolgente, ma dal sicuro impatto emotivo.
