Beppe Caruso Free Air: Punti di vista

Potremmo dire che Free Air, il sestetto di Beppe Caruso formato da soli fiati ad eccezione della batteria di Ferdinando Faraò, sia un progetto che corre su due binari paralleli. Quello delle esibizioni dal vivo si trasforma in Pentafotogramma, viaggio multimediale nel quale gli scatti fotografici di Roberto Cifarelli presi durante il viaggio, nel backstage, e nel momento dell’esecuzione interagiscono magnificamente con le immagini sonore del gruppo, arricchendo di ulteriori valenze il processo creativo della performance.

Mentre quello in studio si sofferma maggiormente sull’aspetto compositivo - in Punti di vista ogni componente del gruppo fornisce un brano - sul rigore formale, sulla cura delle sonorità, sul rispetto degli equilibri, pur mantenendo la forte carica comunicativa e l’intenso flusso di energia tipico delle esibizioni live.

Ne risulta una notevole ricchezza espressiva, con indovinate incursioni elettro-funky, l’iniziale “Groove Number 0“, delicate armonizzazioni old fashion, “Emmanuelle“, polifoniche improvvisazioni “Albero Cromato“, suggestive sperimentazioni timbriche, “Nutmbo“, gioiose contaminazioni sudamericane “Sambarau“. Più due non originals: “Nonet“, resa come un bolero africano, ed “Angel Eyes“ in versione gran classe.

Nonostante Free Air sia una formazione di soli ottoni, noia e monocromatismo sono vocaboli banditi dal lessico di Beppe Caruso e soci, che sorprendono l’ascoltatore con continui cambi i direzione e gustose trovate musicali.
