Ellington waxed his first recordings in 1923 . Remarkably, quite a number of Ellington compositions from his early period remain popular with jazz musicians, including "Black and Tan Fantasy," "The Mooche," "Creole Love Call," "Black Beauty" and "Mood Indigo."
