Steph Chou: Pime Knot
Chou si muove all'interno di un modern jazz ben orchestrato, dalle linee pulite, saldamente ancorato alla triade melodia/armonia/ritmo con rare escursioni in campi più avventurosi. Gli arrangiamenti sono sempre misurati e pertinenti, alcuni intrecci tra i due fiati risultano convincenti con Marcus Printup, presente in sei brani, ad esibire la riconosciuta maestria alla tromba. Il risultato finale è un jazz elegante e godibile, con qualche pennellata classicheggiante, poco adatto a chi è cerca di forti emozioni.
Il disco si apre e chiude con Chou impegnata al canto, nella lingua madre nel brevissimo brano iniziale, e in "Eye Contact," chiusura dall'impronta dichiaratamente pop che ben esemplifica l'approccio musicale leggero e accattivante di Steph Chou.
