Maria Pia De Vito - Huw Warren: 'O pata pata

Due accompagnatori eclettici e di grande spessore - Huw Warren e Ralph Towner - e un repertorio diversificato ma perfettamente adatto alle sue doti vocali e interpretative, ed ecco che Maria Pia De Vito ci offre un lavoro suggestivo e gustoso, dalle molte sfaccettature.

I brani in programma hanno le più diverse provenienze - alcuni originali, altri tradizionali, altri ancora di grandi maestri sudamericani - ma ricondotti al colore della cantante napoletana da testi scritti da lei stessa. Su quei brani, sempre comunque molto affascinanti, la De Vito muta interpretazione, vocalizzando ora con i suoi caratteristici stilemi - ad esempio in "G Continuo," che riporta al suo bel sodalizio con Rita Marcotulli, o in "Curiosity Threatens," scrittole da Warren - e altrove cantando in napoletano, recuperando la drammaticità dalla tradizione, aggiornandone però i modi - come in "'A sposa riluttante" o "La nova gelosia," attraversata da lampi d'elettronica, e soprattutto in "'O pata pata," autentica perla di "tradizione innovata".

Warren accompagna la cantante con rispetto e intesa, ricordando spesso le modalità d'interazione che De Vito aveva con Marcotulli, ma aggiungendovi momenti di maggiore rarefazione e distillazione di note, che donano alla musica una nuova e inattesa dimensione. Towner, presente solo in tre tracce, si limita a aggiungere il suo caratteristico colore - e calore - alla chitarra, con presenza discreta ma preziosa.

Un disco, alla fine, piuttosto "classico" per la cantante partenopea, e tuttavia assai ben riuscito, equilibrato nella sua varietà e apprezzabile per la sua raffinatezza.
