Ibrido Hot Five: Nothing to Kill or Die For

Jazz da camera, ma non solo. È questa la ricetta che propongono gli Ibrido Hot Five nel loro CD di debutto Nothing to Kill or Die For. Dopo numerosi cambi di formazione il quintetto italiano sembra aver definitivamente spiccato il volo verso la realizzazione di un progetto musicale stabile.

E nelle musiche da camera per cinque esecutori e otto strumenti, il progetto prende la forma obliqua delle commistioni di genere che spesso nascondono novità stilistiche e creative. Non sarà per l’evocazione del nome Hot Five (tanto caro a chi segue e seguirà quel modo di intendere jazz, irraggiungibile), ma le continue “presenze” fanno i conti, nel disco, con la tradizione classica europea non escludendo continui e ripetuti excursus nella geniale stravaganza contemporanea e nel prog rock (leggi alla voce Gentle Giant).

Legni, archi e ance per un set di composizioni originali (spicca la creatività di Antonio Apuzzo, ma anche quella di Capomolla e Tortora), ma anche di personali interpretazioni del patrimonio jazz più inestimabile (“Freedom” di Charles Mingus, “In All Languages” di Ornette Colemann e “Chelsea Bridge” per la penna di Billy Strayhorn).

Sedici brani per un totale di oltre settanta minuti di continui andirivieni nello spazio e nel tempo della ricerca musicale fanno di questo disco un esordio di buone speranze che traccia linee di idee musicali fresche e immaginifiche.
