Anne Mette Iversen Quartet: Milo Songs

Alla base di Milo Songs ci sono un bambino, Milo per l'appunto, ed una semplice melodia che il bambino stesso canta ripetutamente, come fosse un mantra. Anne Mette Iversen, la mamma di Milo, pensa che sia possibile costruire attorno ad essa un intero album nel quale raccontare la bellezza del mondo visto con gli occhi dell'infanzia. Convoca il fidato quartetto che aveva dato alle stampe il doppio CD Many Places/Best of the West (BJR - 2008) ed ecco servito Milo Songs.

Si potrebbe dire che questo lavoro riprende da dove si era interrotto Many Places, il disco bianco per solo quartetto. Composizioni raffinate, grande padronanza delle dinamiche, predilezione per la componente melodica, uno swing sottile e implacabile, sensibilità estrema nel rispetto dei ruoli e nella direzione musicale. Ossia tutti gli ingredienti di un jazz moderno esteticamente ineccepibile.

Ma se nel precedente doppio album, la presenza di un quartetto d'archi nel disco nero, era l'elemento che permetteva alla scrittura di Iversen di decollare svelandone a pieno tutta la ricchezza celata dietro all'apparente semplicità, in Milo Songs questo elemento manca. L'album scorre via piacevole ma senza sussulti, senza quelle tensioni necessarie a conferire alla musica un poco di mistero e di intrigante provocazione.
