About the Album
American-Canadian vocalist and producer Peter Campbell releases Haunted Melody, which follows his critically acclaimed release Old Flames Never Die (one of JazzTimes Top 40 Albums of 2020). Co-arranged with acclaimed Canadian guitarist Reg Schwager, the new album features some of Canada's finest musicians, with contributions from American saxophonist Joel Frahm and Portuguese producer and composer Ernesto Leite. The album has even deeper resonance for the artist, as its delayed release follows not only the passing of his parents in 2024 but also the recent conclusion of a long-term relationship and his subsequent return to Canada. Having germinated during our collective period of isolation, Haunted Melody is a remembrance of a past romantic relationship, employing a complex musical palette and varied, lesser-known repertoire. With the inclusion of three compositions written by Brazilian composers, Campbell’s residency in Portugal over the past four years fostered greater exploration into Brazilian music and Portuguese culture. The characterization of his musical and vocal aesthetic as “Traditional Pop” allows for a fluid interplay of traditional jazz, French chanson and Latin-inspired rhythms. Haunted Melody was released on Friday, September 12th 2025.
