Lee Konitz - Chris Cheek - Stephane Furic Leibovici: Jugendstil II
Qui lo ascoltiamo coinvolto in un progetto del tutto singolare, in cui l'incontro con il suo collega di strumento Cheek e con il contrabbassista Stephan Furic Leibovici è all'origine di una dimensione musicale in cui al di là delle dinamiche più mordaci di "Odysseus Returns" o delle ballad apollinee, la materia permane vaporosa e onirica.
E' il solido contrabbasso del regista di questo incontro a tenere le redini del percorso in cui i due fiati improvvisano come sospesi in un'assenza di gravità trasognata e bellissima, avviluppandosi attraverso abbracci e abbandoni. Con l'intervento degli altri ospiti, che si aggiungono al terzetto base in "A l'ile de fressanges(...nuit d'etè...)" e "Phongsaly," il suono assume connotati cameristici, forse meno apollinei, ma lo spirito non cambia.
Complessivamente è un ascolto intenso ma tutt'altro che esigente, costruito com'è su un ricercato senso dello spazio e su un suono dilatato capace di penetrare l'ascoltatore senza richiederre nulla in cambio.
Il disco è nato da un'idea del contrabbassista e del batterista (e collaboratore di lunga data di Furic) Jim Black, che ne è anche il produttore.
