This episode of One Man's Jazz has the appearance of a tasting menu; a variety of styles and tastes. On the avant-garde side you can select from the eternally favourite duo of saxophonist Ivo Perelman and pianist Matthew Shipp, the powerful pianist from Berlin, Simon Nabatov, leading a band of New York heavies, or the German exploratory quartet Neon Dilemma. Previews of coming attractions include L.A. trumpeter Dan Rosenboom's electric trio and one from saxophonist Jason Robinson's upcoming Blue Salience For Yusef Lateef, while finally available in all its glory is James Brandon Lewis' Calling Antonin with his Red Lily Quintet ensemble. There are other tasty entrées from guitarist Max Light, drummer Phil Haynes 2-cd set, the Insomnia Brass Band from Germany, Portuguese bassist Cícero Lee, and a pristine solo saxophone effort from Andrew D'Angelo. A little dessert perhaps? More Coltrane tributes, this time from Kahil El'Zabar's Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. Please remember to tip the musicians!
