Ray Anderson - Marty Ehrlich: Hear You Say - Live in Willisau
Ripreso dal vivo al festival di Willisau del 2009, il gruppo si dimostra organico non solo di altissima levatura strumentale, ma anche dotato di un'ottica profondissima, che stratifica i linguaggi da New Orleans all'AACM. Non a caso l'apertura è affidata a un brano dedicato al compianto violinista Leroy Jenkins, ma c'è spazio anche per travolgenti letture dell'energia be-bop ["Hot Crab Pot" o "The Git Go"] e per risalire al forte espressionismo sonoro dell'ottima "Alligatory Rhumba".
Lontani da ogni enciclopedismo, capaci di smentire con ogni gesto musicale le sterili dottrine alla Ken Burns, Anderson e Ehrlich mettono in moto una irresistibile macchina da jazz, solidissima nelle tradizioni quanto fresca negli esiti, il cui spazio solista ridona al momento collettivo quella funzione di condivisione che a volte si perde anche con grandi strumentisti.
