Gerald Cleaver - William Parker - Craig Taborn: Farmers by Nature
Il tratto saliente del disco è un senso del tempo e del ritmo che pervade ogni secondo di musica, che segna ovviamente anche la percussività tellurica e sottotraccia con cui si apre la registrazione.
Contrabbasso, batteria e pianoforte si concretizzano dal silenzio più assoluto attraverso un fluire minuto ma montante, energetico e crescente di pelli e corde. I brani sono stati divisi in diverse tracce e diversi titoli per comodità, anche se in realtà questo disco immortala un'unica session di poco più di un'ora che è completamente improvvisata e che all'inizio delle singole composizioni sembra fare spazio a uno scenario sonoro aperto, quasi sfaldato, in grado di definirsi in una specie di puntillinismo free.
Complessivamente contrabbasso e batteria interagiscono con febbrile complicità e un percussionismo legnoso, suoni piccoli, ninnoli metalliferi, sottili nebulose rumorose sorreggono - o contrastano in un gioco di sfasamento ritmico impressionante - un pianoforte che passa da accordi sparpagliati a un fluire febbrile e accordale che costituisce un'unica dimensione dionisiaca di grande respiro in cui si possono ritrovare Cecil Taylor, Thelonius Monk e Morton Feldman.
