Fabian Dudek, Dan Weiss, Jasper Hoiby & Mazam

Click the play button to listen

German alto player Fabian Dudek's new This Every Place is an indication that Dudek's forming his own improvisational language, and his album is graced with the presence of Ingrid Laubrock. A definite must listen. There's a similar path followed by the Portuguese quartet, Mazam, on their new Pilgrimage Vol. 2. Drummer Dan Weiss' latest features a killer quartet with Patricia Brennan, Peter Evans & Miles Okazaki, while bassist Jasper Hoiby and an internationally flavoured band challenge us all with his new We Must Fight!. There's some revived material for you too: more from saxophonist Ivo Perelman's Leo Records Archives and a track from Danish saxophonist Benjamin Koppel's The Art Of The Quartet Volume 1 with Jack DeJohnette, Scott Colley & Kenny Werner from 2015. The closer features pianist Dave Burrell & drummer Sam Woodyard from the somewhat legendary, but heretofore never released, The Lost Sessions -Paris 1979. (Fabian Dudek photo by Stefanie Marcus).
