Hobby Horse: Eponymous

Gli americani Kinzelman e Rehmer, ormai italiani (per l'esattezza umbri) d'adozione, e il fiorentino Tamborrino - trentenni, poco più o poco meno - compongono un trio tutto sommato anomalo, nato nel 2008 e di cui questo Eponymous è il primo album ufficiale, dopo gli autoprodotti Trevi (2010) e Godrush (2012, EP). Vi confluiscono schegge musicali di varia natura e provenienza, a iniziare dalle "penne" coinvolte, che vanno da Kinzelman (sei brani) e Rehmer (uno), a Nick Drake per "Three Hours," a Furnò e De Curtis per "Non ti scordar di me" (in questi ultimi due casi, quasi fisiologicamente, entra anche l'elemento-voce).

Nella pratica, tutto questo crogiuolo di input si materializza in un album vario e alterno, in cui per esempio il tenore di Kinzelman ha incursioni e rugosità che non gli conoscevamo (nel lavoro con Rava e Giovanni Guidi, specificatamente); un album i cui tracciati qua e là risultano lievemente informi, forse irrisolti, ma che si pone comunque in una prospettiva cui non difetta una buona dose di originalità.

Si succedono, così il concentrato (ma vivace) "Battle 1," il più ampio "Visitor," francamente un po' estenuato, l'elusivo "Ribcage," il minimale "Watercourse," i quasi gemelli "Kitten Salad Sandwich" "Kitten Salad Sandwich" e "Battle 2," ben più corporei, il quasi ipnotico (caso non isolato, del resto), spettrale "Three Hours," il magro "Success" e, in chiusura, "Non ti scordar di me," in cui spicca un bel solo di contrabbasso archettato. Pescando lì in mezzo, non mancano certo i motivi di interesse.
