Edward è uno dei miei musicisti preferiti. Il contrappunto nella sua scrittura è una vera fonte d’ispirazione. “Fiestas“ e “Unknown Path“ sono i miei brani preferiti.
02. Idil Biret - Stravinskj: The Firebird (Piano Transcription) (Naxos - 2003).
Uno studente del mio corso mi disse che stava imparando “L’uccello di fuoco“ a orecchio e ho pensato che fosse una grande idea. Così ho tirato fuori questa versione e ho incominciato ad ascoltarla attentamente.
03. Edward Simon - Edward Simon (Kokopelli - 1995).
Uno dei suoi primi dischi. Grandi brani e grande band.
04. Thelonius Monk - The Complete Prestige Recordings (Prestige - 1954).
Brani irresistibili con Coleman Hawkins, Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey etc. Tantissimi brani pazzeschi. Una raccolta splendida.
05. Sonny Rollins - The Bridge (RCA - 1962).
Incredibile. Disco pieno di meraviglie.
06. Dexter Gordon - A Swingin’ Affair (Blue Note - 1962).
Grande album registrato pochi giorni dopo il classico Go!.
07. Fredrik Ullen - Gyorgy Ligeti - Complete Piano Music, Volume 1 (Bis -1996).
Ben Monder mi ha fatto scoprire questa incisione. Sorprendente.
08. David Binney - Cities and Desire (Criss Cross - 2006).
Un grande disco da un grande musicista e da una meravigliosa band.
09. Elis Regina & Tom Jobim - Elis and Tom (Verve - 1974).
Uno dei miglori album di sempre. Elis Regina è maestra di enunciazione e di sensibilità. C’è tanta finezza e bellezza nel suo modo di cantare una melodia. C’è un grande video clip su You Tube nel quale Elis e Tom cantano “Waters of March“. Cercatelo! [N.d.R.: AAJ l'ha cercato per voi: potete guardarlo cliccando qui!]
10. U2 - How to Dismantle the Atomic Bomb (Universal - 2004).
Adoro il brano “Crumbs from Your Table“. Il testo e il messaggio contenuto sono opportuni e ricchi di significato. Grande produzione.
