Uno sguardo alla lista dei brani ed alla foto in copertina del cantante, in frac e con i capelli freschi di tintura, potrebbe far pensare ad una cosa da piano bar. Niente di più errato: ci troviamo di fronte ad un interprete di standards, con una grande voce e una dizione perfetta. Ad accompagnarlo un'ottima band e Brian Lynch, un autentico fuoriclasse della tromba.

Gli arrangiamenti moderni, ad esempio gli accenti funky di "People Will Say We're in Love, o la bossa, cantata in inglese, "Once I Loved" di Jobim e Vinicius De Moraes, rendono l'album consono ai tempi. L'alto livello musicale che qui si esibisce è raggiunto da pochi in un settore affollato, specie da voci femminil.

Le interpretazioni di Damian sono perfette dal punto di vista formale e su altre coordinate rispetto a colleghi come Jimmy Scott o Chet Baker, Mark Murphy o il più giovane Kurt Elling che più volte hanno interpretato i brani che qui si ascoltano. Quello di Damian (che di cognome va Riccardi) è un altro tipo di approccio agli standards, vicino, ad esempio, ad un Frank Sinatra.
