Mike Walbridge´s Chicago Footwarmers: Crazy Rhythm

La Delmark ha riunito in un solo CD due session del 1966 e del 1967 dei Mike Walbridges's Chicago Footwarmers ed una nuova del 2007, in cui Mike Walbridge e Kim Cusack suonano con due nuovi musicisti al banjo ed alla batteria.

Si tratta di due session di dixieland abbastanza interessanti, realizzate da musicisti abbastanza professionali, che chiaramente hanno una differenza in termini di qualità sonora. Kim Cusack è un bravo clarinettista che si rifà a stili tradizionali (Darnell Howard della band di Earl Hines), Mike Walbridge si dà da fare con abilità sia nel ruolo di solista che in quella di accompagnatore. La seduta di registrazione più recente suona un pó asciutta, anche per la mancanza del pianoforte, e così viene fuori il suono del sassofono così come lo si suonava prima dell'era bop, o il forte impatto della tuba. Un suono interessante, non solo per gli appassionati del genere.

L'altra seduta di registrazione, con il pianoforte di Johnny Cooper, è più radicata nella tradizione e non meritava comunque di finire nell'oblio.
