Mon David: Coming True
Il piano è chiaro. Con una voce baritonale così, tanta preparazione tecnica, un passato da batterista al servizio di un'icona pop del posto, cosa ci può essere di meglio che confrontarsi con la patria del jazz?
E allora, Mon ha bisogno di musicisti dignitosissimi (tra gli altri: Tateng Katindig, piano; Dominic Thiroux, basso, Abe Lagrimas, batteria, e Justo Almario al sax tenore) e un repertorio che possa abbracciare a meraviglia la sua tecnica scat ("Moonlight Serenade" di Glenn Miller è il punto più elevato di questo suo esordio americano) e la sua vocalità arrembante, ricca e calorosa ("Footprints," "Throw It Away").
Il CD non fa, praticamente, una grinza. Le timbriche scelte negli arrangiamenti e le versioni di standard importanti non smuovono neanche un po' e alle orecchie di qualcuno possono risultare un po' datate. Nel senso che questo cantante potrebbe andare bene per una festa di attempati fan di Tony Bennett. Ottimo. Potreste anche restare. O cambiare festa.
