Trio 3 received much praise in its 35 years of creating great music, but when saxophonist Oliver Lake decided to retire from performing due to health reasons, bassist Reggie Workman & drummer Andrew Cyrille needed to find a third member. They had asked pianist David Virelles to join them at one point, magic happened, and so the two masters decided to make it permanent. The debut of the new Trio Imagination on their new Creative Inspiration is filled with brilliant music. Exhaustion / Kris Wanders, the trio of saxophonist Camila Nebbia, keyboardist Kit Downes & drummer Andrew Lisle, believed their debut recording was just a start to creating powerful & forward-leaning music, and their follow-up, All The Beauties And Disasters, pushes them into must-see, must-hear, territory. Germany's Jazzhausmusik Records has forged a respected path on the European sceneand it chips in with three very interesting and different new releases: label owner, pianist Georg Ruby and his trio's The Morenco Project, Hannes Zerbe's Jazz Orchestra Berlin tackles Jimi Hendrix, and vibraphonist Stefan Bauer's Life Between Plagues documents his life in NYC after moving there in 2001. Musicians from Denmark are represented by drummer Kresten Osgood's 50th birthday joint with the Urias Ensemble and guitarist Jakob Bro joined by Larry Grenadier, Jorge Rossy & Charles Lloyd. You'll also hear a preview track from the new Kris Davis Trio release and one from the Belgian band Ola Tunji's new Trust. Finally, multi-reedist Michael Moss introduces his new 3-disc release, Quantum Butterfly . Lots more to enjoy as well.
