Antonio Onorato: Breathing

Secondo quanto riporta Wikipedia, Antonio Onorato è l'unico musicista al Mondo a utilizzare la Breath Guitar - Yamaha G10 (o chitarra a fiato), strumento caratterizzato dal poter essere suonato proprio come un sassofono grazie a un Breath Controller (imboccatura simile a quella di uno strumento a fiato). Sta di fatto che in Breathing il nostro mette a reagire la gamma di utilizzo di questo strumento - che a seconda delle situazioni si avvicina anche al suono di tromba o flauto - spaziando dalla musica napoletana agli standard jazzistici, dai suoni derivanti da matrici elettroniche a situazioni orchestrali di grande eleganza.

Dodici brani che rimandano ad una musica funky, carica di groove e imbevuta di ritmi coinvolgenti, come in "Jazz Newpolitano," quasi tutti originali firmati dal leader, tranne le dediche riservate ad alcune figure impescindibili come Miles Davis, John Coltrane e Bill Evans. È proprio allo spirito dell'ultimo Miles - versante elettrico - che il lavoro sembra essere maggiormente ispirato, con quel suo saper fondere jazz e sonorità tendenzialmente rock. Verrebbe da dire fusion, ma in alcuni passaggi Onorato riesce a smarcarsi dall'incasellamento semplicistico. Questo perché al suo fianco troviamo musicisti preparati e duttili - da rimarcare la propulsione ritmica di Alberto D'Anna e Diego Imparato - pronti al cambio di scenario in corso d'opera.

Album apprezzabile per l'originalità delle intenzioni e l'alta godibilità dei temi proposti, pieni di melodie e situazioni lineari. L'unica controindicazione potrebbe rivelarsi - ironia della sorte - proprio il timbro della Breath Guitar, strumento che emana un sapore interessante, ma alla lunga anche timbricamente monotono.
