Bitches Brew @ 50, Sonny Rollins with Brownie & Max (& More)

Click the play button to listen

This week we have recent music from Akiko Tsuruga (her best yet!), Pierre Dorge, Chris Rogers, Anthony Fung and Conrad Herwig. But the big news is that Bitches Brew was recorded in August, 1969 over three days. This week we offer the sessions recorded on August 19, 1969. The edit log for the title track (on our Mixcloud blog) is fascinating, as the track was 'constructed' post-production. Oh, and there's Sonny Rollins with Clifford Brown and Max Roach from 1956, including an authorized live version of "Daahoud" that has yet to appear on a CD. And, at least one of us hasn't forgotten pianist Rodney Kendrick, who did a fabulous series of late 20th century records for Verve (he's one of our rotating featured artists); please come back and give us more! Enjoy the show!

Thanks to our most active listeners of the week in Kiev (Ukraine), Athens (Greece), New York City & Koln (Germany)!

R.I.P. Bob Wilber (March 15, 1928—August 4, 2019) -a keeper of the flame
