Gianni Mimmo - Lorenzo Dal Ri: Bespoken

Terzo disco uscito per l'etichetta indipendente Amirani Records, anche questo Bespoken vede di scena il sassofonista soprano Gianni Mimmo, già protagonista dei precedenti One Way Ticket e Two's Days / Tuesdays. Ma qui l'atmosfera è molto diversa, presentando accanto al soprano anche piano, piano preparato e, in alcuni passaggi, il sax basso (tutto suonato da Mimmo) e, soprattutto, l'elettronica di Lorenzo Dal Ri, che accompagna i suoni acustici.

Nonostante la grande variazione di atmosfera rispeto agli altri dischi di Mimmo, anche in questo lavoro l'ispirazione è riconsocibilmente lacyana - il lavoro ricorda le registrazioni fatte da Lacy a Parigi per la Saravah negli anni '70 - anche per la profondità della ricerca sonora, che avvicina i suoni strumentali ai rumori del mondo circostante, sia urbano ("Traffico"), sia della natura ("The Tonespring Interlude", "The Rainshadow Interlude"), sia umano ("Kids").

Un pregio aggiuntivo del lavoro è la sua grande compostezza, a dispetto della sperimentalità e della commistione di suoni. In nessun passaggio il caos prende il sopravvento, neppure in brani come "Other Work", tutto giocato sui sovracuti del soprano. Al contrario, alcune tracce danno realmente la sensazione di un distacco quasi Zen.

Un lavoro ancora una volta convincente, che all'ascolto allerta e cattura, stimola e distende al tempo stesso.
