J. Peter Schwalm / Markus Reuter: Aufbruch
by Dan McClenaghan
In 2020 electro-acoustic programmer/keyboardist J.Peter Schwalm paired up with Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen for the excellent outing Neuzeit (RareNoiseRecords), one of the year's standout discs. 2021 finds Schwalm collaborating with touch guitarist Markus Reuter, of Stickmen fame. The music this collaboration creates can be described as industrial sound-scaping mixed with noises welling up from deep Earth or emanating in from deep space, tectonic and galactic at the same time. Wall of sound" is a phrase used to describe ...

by Glenn Astarita
These highly respected artists turn in an impressionable assault on progressive rock, extended with avant-garde tendencies and gobs of mind-bending improv via these four instantaneous compositions as they launch the cosmic proceedings with the 22- minute oeuvre, Dark Sparks." Here, touch guitarist Markus Reuter (Stick Men, Mark Wingfield) and guitarist Tim Motzer (David Sylvian, Bandit 65) enact brooding and sanctified themes with menacing lines and existential EFX treatments, supported by drummer Kenny Grohowski's (Simulacrum, Dapp Theory) dexterous brushwork.

by Mark Sullivan
Guitarist and composer Stephan Thelen's Fractal Guitar (MoonJune Records, 2018) found him stepping outside of his role in the band Sonar in a big way. An absolute feast of multiple guitars with electronic effects, live looping and soundscaping, it also featured a star-studded group of guest guitarists (not to mention a grooving rhythm section). The good news is that almost all of them are back for the second installment, along with some new friends. The original album was largely created ...

by Dan McClenaghan
Hari Ketiga is presented as a logbook of a voyage from the Earth to the moon, and beyond, to contact with music from distant planetary systemsa sprawling outer space improv opera as dense and difficult to fathom as Frank Herbert's first three Dune novels, or Samuel Delany's Dhalgren. It began simply enough: Leonardo Pavkovic assembled a group of musicians that included Indonesian pianist Dwiki Dharmawan and three mainstays from from his Moonjune Records rostervocalist Boris Savoldelli, Touch Guitar ...
