Markus Reuter
Markus Reuter is a producer, musician, composer & sound designer.
Born in 1972, Markus initially trained as a pianist before switching to guitar in the late 80's, and subsequently touch guitar in 1993. Soon after, he developed a unique skill for improvised composition, often employing loop-based technology in order to push the envelope of solo performance. In his teenage years, Markus studied music theory and composition with Karlheinz Straetmanns, in the tradition of Paul Hindemith & Harald Genzmer. In his twenties, he spent time with Daniel Schell studying his very special compositional techniques as well as some Indian music (with Ashok Pathak). Markus' technique as an instrumentalist and performer is largely based on studying Guitar Craft with Robert Fripp and Tony Geballe from 1991 - 1998.
Markus was aligned to several eclectic bands such as Europa String Choir, and String Unit (with Zoltan Lantos), both in the studio and live arena, as well as maintaining an ongoing relationship with electronic musician Ian Boddy - which has to date produced 4 albums and 2 virtual musical instruments.
Since the late 90's Markus's mainstay has been the Anglo-German band CENTROZOON, alongside long-term musical partner Bernhard Woestheinrich, and English singer Tim Bowness (of seminal art-rock band No-Man).
The group has attracted numerous celebrity fans, including guitarist David Torn, and King Crimson drummer Pat Mastelotto, who has recently collaborated with Markus both on stage and in the studio. The pair released an album under the name TUNER in late 2005 and have released a second album 'POLE' in June 2007.
Markus continues to work in diverse fields incl. production & songwriting, sound design (for Native Instruments) and an increasing number of activities in performance art and scoring. His current main interest is the use of algorithmic composition in all sorts of styles (incl. ambient, pop & rock music) and generative approaches to sound design.
So far his work spans more than 40 albums. Live and studio work includes collaborations with artists and bands such as Alain Pinero, Lee Fletcher, Cathy Stevens, Renee Stieger, Ian Boddy, Daniel Schell, Zoltan Lantos, Modo Bierkamp, Dagobert Boehm, Nigel Mullaney, Elton Dean, Peter Chilvers, Simon Heyworth, Hugh Hopper, Michael Peters, Leander Reininghaus, Roberto Riggio, Laura Scarborough, Andrew Ostler, Heather Sullivan, Alessandro Bruno, Bert Lams, Udo Dzierzanowski, Tony Lakatos, Hideyo Moriya, Tim Bowness, Paul Richards, Lisa Fletcher, Thorsten Niestrath, Isildurs Bane, Denis Blackham, Fabrice DeGraef, Michael Bearpark, Stefano Panunzi, Mathias Grassow, Bill Munyon, Derek DiFilippo, Chris Wong, Pat Mastelotto, Stephen Parsick, Bernhard Woestheinrich, Davide Rossi, Henning Ruemenapp, Tim Bowness, Fabio Trentini, Tony Geballe, Richard Barbieri, Franco Feruglio, Toyah Willcox, synapscape, Luca Calabrese, Bill Rieflin, Christian Saggese, ULVER, Ritchie DeCarlo, Scott McGill, Percy Jones, Weekend Guitar Trio, starofash, UMA, Robert Rich, etc.
