Omar Sosa: Across The Divide: A Tale of Rhythm & Ancestry
Il tutto rivissuto con la mente e la sensibilità di un trentenne del terzo millennio, che vive da cittadino cosmopolita nella società globalizzata di oggi. Lo testimoniano i suoni elettrici campionati pre-registrati nonché l'adozione di qualche chitarra di troppo all'interno di un flusso poderoso ma estremamente rilassato, che genera una enorme tensione ritmica.
Il leader mostra una maturità raggiunta che va oltre quella sul piano meramente strumentale, per concentrarsi sull'arte raffinata dell'arrangiamento e della composizione, che di per sé sarebbero ragguardevoli senza le già citate concessioni neo-fusion e neo-world.
Notevole è la disposizione timbrica di tutto un armamentario africano ed afromaericano che va dalla kora alla kalimba fino a vari tipi di percussioni. Ma il piatto forte del disco è dato dall'inserimento di alcuni testi manifesto dell'Harlem Reinassence di Langston Hughes, proiettati così all'attenzione di un vastissimo pubblico grazie all'enorme popolarità di cui gode trasversalmente Sosa in tutto il mondo.
Un leader giano-bifronte, impegnato da una parte a diffondere una forte idea di cultura e di musica, ma che strizza anche l'occhio a musiche più commerciali. Da qui il suo passare dal jazz al funky ed al rock, senza mai cadute di gusto.
