Francesco Negro Quartet: Abbagli

Grazie alla "Revelation Series" della Philology Records, il produttore Pierpaolo Piangiarelli contribuisce al lancio di nuovi talenti nazionali. Con Abbagli è la volta del pianista leccese Francesco Negro, qui in quartetto ed in un lunga suite in solo dedicata a Enrico Pieranunzi e Bill Evans. Due nomi che rivelano subito i capiscuola del giovane pianista.

Ci sono tutti i requisiti che si aspettano dal jazz italiano: belle melodie, facilità di esecuzione, la proposta del lato più sentimentale, in senso positivo, di composizioni che il leader stesso ha scritto, tutto questo senza mancare di angolarità, di ricerca della libertà, come in "La chiesa abbandonata". Tutto questo conferma l'ampia cultura pianistica di Negro, abile ad uscire dagli schemi e così a mostrarsi con una forte personalità già all'esordio con questo quartetto.

Pur non mostrando una particolare originalità le altre sue composizioni rivelano arguzia ("Pig Dog", "Light Off" servita in due versioni) esecutiva e bravura tecnica, all'interno di un linguaggio che è parte di un modern mainstream con le radici al di qua dell'Atlantico.
