10 CD nel CD-Player di... Federico Ughi
Ogni volta che vado a vedere Charles Gayle suonare dal vivo è un'esperienza speciale. Questa registrazione è solo un assaggio.
02. Miles Davis - The Complete Jack Johnson (Columbia - 2003).
Daniel Carter mi ha consigliato questa nuova edizione. "Right Off" (lato A del vinile originale) è per me Miles anni '70 alla massima potenza. Mi ricorda una tournee che ho fatto in Messico due anni fa, quando sentivamo questo album di notte, in autostrada. Da ascoltare a volume elevato.
03. Ornette Coleman - Soapsuds, Soapsuds (Artist's House - 1977).
L'ho fatto ascoltare a un'amica. Mi ha risposto che il primo brano ("Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman") è "da strapparsi la pelle". Concordo.
04. Elvin Jones - Richard Davis - Heavy Sounds (Impulse! - 1967).
Elvin Jones! Elvin Jones! Elvin Jones!
05. The Hilliard Ensemble - In Paradisum, Music of Victoria and Palestrina (ECM - 1997).
Ascolto questo CD da anni. C'è un che di imperfetto, sporco nell'esecuzione che trovo affascinante.
06. Sun Ra - Lanquidity (Evidence Music - 1978).
La luce del cielo di Brooklyn, in primavera, verso le sette di sera.
07. Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2 (Constellation - 2011).
Bello e apocalittico.
08. Alla' - Foundou de Bechar (NordSud - 1993).
C'è molta musica tradizionale del Nord Africa che trovo interessante. Questo è uno degli album che continuo ad ascoltare negli anni.
09. Charles Lloyd - Hyperion with Higgins (ECM - 2001).
Non so se sia il disco migliore di Charles Lloyd degli ultimi 20 anni, ma come tutti associo album e brani a momenti particolari. Questo ho cominciato ad ascoltarlo a Shanghai un anno fa.
10. David S. Ware - Threads (Thirsty Ear Recordings - 2003).
Un album strano. Non so perché mi piace, ma mi piace. Mi ritengo fortunato per aver ascoltato Ware dal vivo, qui con il mio maestro William Parker e altre eroiche figure newyorkesi.
