Cais Sodré Funk Connection: You Are Somebody
La formazione prende il nome da una stazione ferroviaria di Lisbona dove, in un locale poco distante - il Musicbox - il gruppo suona regolarmente da quattro anni. Nasce dalla comune passione dei suoi membri per la musica di James Brown, di Otis Redding, dei Bar Keys, di Booker T & The MG's e in generale del mitico sound della Stax Records.
Figura di spicco e anima del gruppo è il chitarrista Tiago Santos, che ha riunito musicisti provenienti da varie formazioni portoghesi ed è autore di tutti i temi originali. Gli arrangiamenti sono efficaci e coinvolgenti, grazie al sound marcato dei fiati, alla ricca spinta ritmica e alle ottime voci in gioco. Molto brava è Tamin Amantes, una voce emergente sulla scena portoghese, ma la vera sorpresa viene da Fernando Nobre, cantante animato da fervore e giusto feeling per interpretare questa musica.
Tra i brani del disco spiccano "Are You Somebody" ed i classici "Out of Sight" e "I Gotta Feeling" in cui rivive lo spirito di James Brown. In un brano, "Lose It" il gruppo accompagna il soul singer afro-americano Rickey Calloway.
Ottimo lavoro e ottima band, dunque, che merita di trovare consensi anche in Italia.
