Francesco Bearzatti Tinissima Quartet: X (Suite for Malcolm)
È la storia di Malcolm X ad averlo ispirato per questo nuovo progetto discografico. Un'idea che ha preso vita grazie all'interesse di Bearzatti per tutta la questione afroamericana e che si è sviluppata in dieci movimenti, indicizzati con i numeri romani e che dunque terminano, non a caso, proprio sulla lettera X.
X (Suite for Malcolm) è un disco che riesce a percorrere diversi sentieri stilistici - si va dagli accenti rock, alla disco, passando per l'hip hop oltre che per il jazz in senso più stretto - grazie alla versatilità degli interpreti chiamati in causa. Musicisti che sanno emanare una forte idea di coesione, facendo leva sull'affiatamento raggiunto nei molti concerti affrontati insieme negli ultimi tre anni. Bearzatti si distingue per la grande espressività del suo sax, spesso voce primaria sia nei tratti fluidi ("Prince of Crime"), che nelle situazioni più spigolose o frizzanti ("A New Leader"). Non è gli è da meno Giovanni Falzone, ottimo nell'interpretare il ruolo di co-leader, che si conferma su livelli espressivi di sicuro valore.
I temi dell'intera suite si sviluppano in una concatenazione di tipo cinematografico, con passaggi in diverse stanze sonore e con dialoghi tra gli strumenti. E in effetti l'intero progetto è stato parallelamente pensato per una proiezione video durante i concerti e la realizzazione di illustrazioni a cura di Francesco Chiacchio.
Da ascoltare dunque con occhi ben aperti.
