John Abercrombie: Wait Till You See Her
Siamo dalle parti di un jazz cameristico per nulla esangue, che sa ben innervarsi sui ritmi delicati ma precisi forniti dal geniale Joey Baron per ricavare preziose filigrane sonore che non raggiungono mai livelli dinamici sopra le righe ma che allo stesso tempo non rischiano mai di bloccarsi nell'auto-contemplazione. Musica dotata di una sorta di aura elettroacustica che riverbera sensibilità tinte di morbidi colori pastellati.
I brani sono tutti originali scritti da Abercrombie, con l'eccezione della title track, noto standard di Rodgers e Hart che ci ricorda la vicinanza stilistica di questo gruppo con certe sedute di purezza adamantina di Bill Evans col suo celebre trio oppure con Jim Hall. Il violino di Mark Feldman è sempre preciso e puntuale, capace di zigzagare elegantemente fra gli stili, senza andare a cercare troppi rischi, ma allo stesso tempo senza mai cadere nella routine.
John Abercrombie dimostra ancora una volta di essere maturato con grande intelligenza e coerenza, trovando una sua strada peculiare che lo ha portato senza fretta ad ammorbidire le urgenze espressive dei suoi inizi a favore di una classicità mai di maniera. I quattro marciano con grande flessibilità e buon senso dell'interplay e il nuovo entrato Thomas Morgan è bravo a non far rimpiangere l'eccellente Marc Johnson.
