Dennis Rea: Views from Chicheng Precipice
La musica è dolente e riflessiva, pervasa da uno spirito orientale che aleggia supremo, senza però lasciarsi trascinare nel deja vu o nel revival. Questa è una musica moderna e antica allo stesso tempo, proprio perché riesce magicamente ad essere fuori dal tempo, fuori dalla mischia.
La chitarra elegante e tagliente allo stesso tempo di Rea dialoga, senza mai farsi prendere dall'ansia, con gli strumenti orientali e occidentali affidati ai suoi partner fidati. Le formazioni che affrontano questi cinque brani sono mutevoli e vanno dal quintetto al duo, senza mai perdere il senso di unità molto profondo che pervade questo lavoro affascinante.
In particolare si segnala il brano "Aviariations on a Hundred Birds Serenade the Phoenix," dove la voce incredibilmente plasmabile di Caterina Da Re evoca il canto degli uccelli, dialogando con gli strumenti di Dennis Rea. Pura magia aviaria.
