Peter Evans - Nate Wooley - Jim Black - Paul Lytton: Trumpets and Drums Live in Ljubljana
Perché Trumpets and Drums—Live in Ljubljana risucchia l'ascoltatore in un buco nero dove sembra non accadere nulla, nell'attesa di un Godot sonoro che cambia pelle nel momento stesso in cui siamo sicuri di averne colto l'essenza. La tecnica straordinaria dei due trombettisti, Peter Evans e Nate Wooley, viene assorbita dalla miriade di soluzioni timbriche e dinamiche che alimentano con continuità inesorabile idee, strategie, pensieri apparentemente incompiuti nei quali il senso melodico è suggestione piuttosto che accadimento e lo spazio, il vuoto, il silenzio paiono rivelarsi gli interlocutori privilegiati.
Le due batterie non potrebbero combinarsi meglio, più indirizzata verso la componente ritmica seppure con sorprendente leggerezza quella di Jim Black, vera dispensatrice di architetture sonore quella di Paul Lytton. L'utilizzo di microfonature e amplificatori particolari, così come di un pizzico di elettronica, amplia ulteriormente il senso di spazialità nel quale è immerso l'intera registrazione.
