Tomas Fujiwara: Triple Double
Che, da vero leader, muove i pezzi a disposizione sulla scacchiera delle sue composizioni con gran senso orchestrale, variando il volume dell'organico, giocando sugli incastri, alternando il pieno regime con l'essenzialità e dando forma ad una sorta di minimalismo strumentale amplificato dalla ricchezza timbrica. Vi è un uso dei pieni e dei vuoti magistrali, le invenzioni si susseguono a ritmo infernale ma non hanno nulla di pirotecnico, la tensione non cede di un centimetro qualunque sia il terreno calpestato.
Che siano rarefatti giochi onirici tra echi e riverberi -i due brevi episodi intitolati «Hurry Home» -o il crescendo dai toni epici che rimanda a certe composizioni militanti degli anni sessanta di «Love and Protest», o i richiami alternative rock di «Decisive Shadow» si rimane agganciati in una sorta di palpitante partecipazione dagli esiti sorprendenti. Album di prorompente vitalità Triple Double consacra definitivamente il talento da leader di Tomas Fujiwara e ci mostra uno spaccato entusiasmante di una scena newyorchese in perenne fermento.
