This & That (and Jack), Part 7
Sadly, we bid farewell to two venerable figures in jazzdrummer and pianist Jack DeJohnette, and bassist Anthony Jackson. While Jack received considerably more coverage on All About Jazz over the years, we've also celebrated Anthony's legacy with two radio tributes (and more to come). We recently republished a long-lost interview with Jack, bringing the total number of interviews with him on AAJ to five (see links below). AAJ @ 30
From way back
I'll never forget the time Jack called me and left a message on my answering machine. It went like this: "Hi Michael, this is Jack DeJohnette..." My first thought was, "Wow! Jack DeJohnette called me, I guess AAJ has really made it." :-)Getting Your Music Reviews on AAJ
All About Jazz's Coverage Request & Tracking System was completed today, following a series of improvements including the addition of concert coverage and interview requests. This was no small undertaking, and the result is a smarter, more efficient way for AAJ to manage incoming requestsleading to increased exposure and streamlined communication for all involved. We encourage everyone (artists, publicists, record labels, and presenters) to use it. And if you use it, and have a suggestion on how to improve it, let us know.
AAJ Merch
All About Jazz currently outsources our merchandise printing and fulfillment to Zazzle. Zazzle's been fine, but we're interested in exploring other options. If you use a service that handles merchandise printing, fulfillment, and customer service, please let me know. I'm doing my own research, but I'd love to hear from anyone in our community who's happy with their print-on-demand provider.Jazz Treasure Hunt
Every now and then, news crosses my desk that makes me stop and think, "Now that's a cool idea." And that's exactly how I felt when I learned about trumpeter and composer Charlie Porter's new project, Ciphera fascinating blend of music, mystery, and treasure hunting, complete with real clues and real cash. Read Paul Rauch's review of Cipher and watch the video about the $10,000 treasure hunt. It's clever, creative, and a lot of fun, and definitely worth checking out.Our Jack DeJohnette Interviews
