Manu Katché: Third Round

Manu Katché è un batterista molto versatile. Tanto versatile da trovarsi perfettamente a proprio agio in qualunque contesto. Sul canale televisivo franco-tedesco Arté, il nostro conduce una trasmissione musicale intitolata "One Shot Not," nella quale veste i panni del'house drummer e siede alla batteria accompagnando i diversi ospiti della trasmissione (che possono essere raffinatissimi jazzisti come durissimi rockettari).

Forte di questo bagaglio, con Third Round Katché confeziona un album che strizza l'occhio - sin dalla formazione - a molti generi musicali. C'è l'anima rock (Pino Palladino), il Grande Nord (Tore Brunborg), il guizzo contemporaneo (Jacob Young).

Suonato in modo impeccabile, l'album è un mix di lievi atmosfere groove e rassicurante jazz, che si rivolge ad un pubblico stanco delle banalità pop, ma non ancora pronto per un jazz davvero impegnativo, che coinvolga le viscere.

Musica da elegante sottofondo, incentrata sui mezzi tempi. E, soprattutto, musica senza tempo. Nel senso che potrebbe benissimo essere stata registrata nel 1980, ed invece è del 2010.

Nel bene e nel male, un perfetto esemplare di prodotto ECM. Curatissimo nella veste grafica e nel sound, secondo i dettami che caratterizzano il brand bavarese. Ma povero di emozioni.
