Dom Minasi: The Vampire's Revenge

La linea rossa che separa composizione ed improvvisazione è spesso sottile, ma in questo caso è davvero impalpabile. Dom Minasi è maestro del caos organizzato, del chaos in time, come lo definisce lo stesso chitarrista. Una forma musicale (ammesso che forma sia il termine corretto) che concede ampia libertà ai musicisti, ma al tempo stesso incastona questi momenti che si potrebbero definire free in una struttura rigorosamente composta. Ovvero, il free come transizione (guidata) per legare situazioni musicali differenti.

Musica per orecchie libere ed aperte, ben avvezze a situazioni ostiche. Musica con qualche apertura ironica, ma anche musica con molto rigore. Minasi ha infatti costruito intorno al proprio trio abituale (Ken Filiano al basso e Jason Krall alla batteria) un organico impressionante per compattezza e per qualità dei musicisti. Molti di essi, qui alla loro prima collaborazione con Minasi, hanno trovato sulle partiture indicazioni molto generiche, che hanno dovuto interpretare seguendo il proprio istinto e, naturalmente, la direzione di Byron Olson, cui spetta il compito di tirare le fila della musica.

Un album di ottimo livello, con un'unica nota negativa: la veste grafica. Fuorviante (quasi da trash metal), per nulla corrispondente al contenuto dei due CD.
