Cool Jazz Trio: Take 8

La musica di Take 8 mette in mostra l'esperienza dei musicisti che fanno parte del Cool Jazz Trio, una formazione dal nome programmatico, memore delle lezioni di gruppi "drumless" come quello di Lee Konitz con il chitarrista Dave Cliff. Chiara, D'Onofrio e Milanese sono abili nello sviluppare armonicamente le composizioni e nel dare loro un'interpretazione rilassata, ma comunque lontana mille miglia da quel che si potrebbe chiamare "easy listening". Da un gruppo così non c'è che da aspettarsi eleganza, proprietà di linguaggio, bellezza formale, uno swing sottile ed allo stesso tempo trascinante.

Le due esecuzioni che aprono e chiudono il disco sono in duo, chitarra e sassofono, senza il contrabbasso. Le altre, anch'essi standard, in trio. Ogni episodio risulta molto godibile ed elegante. A secondo dei gusti un brano può sembrare più interessante dell'altro, ma un ascolto attento mette in evidenza la ricerca formale che c'è dietro di ognuno di essi.

In un momento in cui in Italia i musicisti che si rifanno alla tradizione scelgono spesso quella dell'hard bop ci sta benissimo un disco così, che segue una direzione completamente opposta, fedele anch'essa alla tradizione, ma in una direzione diversa.
