I dischi del 2024 secondo Libero Farnè

by Libero Farnè
December 26, 2024

Mark Sullivan's Favorite Jazz Albums of 2024

by Mark Sullivan
December 25, 2024

This was an exceptional year for jazz albums of all sorts, as well as jazz-adjacent experimental music. The supply of previously unreleased live recordings seemed nearly inexhaustible! People discovered tapes right and left, presenting exceptional performances in good to excellent recording quality. My lists could easily have been much longer. Lists are unranked. ...

Dean Nardi's Best Jazz Albums Of 2024

by Dean Nardi
December 24, 2024

This has been the year that musicians collaborated and cross-pollinated, experimented within and outside jazz. Best of all, some of the more avant-garde musicians seemed to find value in sculpting their music like a potter with clay, trimming away the excess, shaping a harmonious vessel. Those were some of the records I listened to more than ...

I dischi del 2024 secondo Angelo Leonardi

by Angelo Leonardi
December 20, 2024

Richard J Salvucci's Best Jazz Albums Of 2024

by Richard J Salvucci
December 18, 2024

Bandleader Glenn Miller would introduce a part of his 1930s radio broadcast with the phrase “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue." If you review enough classic vinyl rereleases, you get plenty of something old. The new here is obvious and a joy to hear. Only problem is that it will be 2025 before making ...

Joshua Weiner's Best Jazz Albums Of 2024

by Joshua Weiner
December 15, 2024

Sweet reissues, new archival releases, and a truly new recording that is nevertheless a tribute to a genius musician of the 1950s and early 1960s... what can I say, I'm just an old-school kind of jazz fan! Also a vinyl listener, and the vast number of all-analogue, well-cut and well-pressed reissues of classic jazz albums coming ...

Twelve albums that reflect the Jazz First manifesto that is as much about dance and groove as it is about improvised music. The featured titles fuse jazz with hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, dub, spiritual, world and other genres that have been dancing with each other amiably for decades. Most of these albums reflect, in part, music for ...

Jack Bowers' Best Jazz Albums Of 2024

by Jack Bowers
December 12, 2024

On a personal note, this is unlike any “best of the year" summaries I've written during my more than twenty-five years as a reviewer for All About Jazz. The reason is that I fell in late April and broke my left femur. As a result, I completed no reviews from that time until early September, a ...
