Brian Owen
Born:
The arrival of Brian Owen on the jazz scene was not accompanied by fanfare promising a new era. Rather, critics and audiences saw an artist who had worked diligently through his formal studies and made progress on his most important artistic assignment, finding a voice that resonated with him and with his listeners. A trumpeter, composer and band leader, Owen was born on June 7th, 1982, in Everett, Washington. He took up the trumpet in his early teens and made rapid headway in music and academic work. Aided by the Running Start program, he managed to complete high school and community college simultaneously. When Owen moved on to Central Washington University, noted for its jazz studies curriculum, bassist and singer Kristin Korb was in charge of the jazz program

Kenneth M. Ash
Born:
I picked up the horn for real on 1/1/00 and never looked back. I've had complications due to age and physicality along the way but, with from 5 to 12 (sometimes more) hours of woodshedding daily, I've come a long way in a short time. I've got a decent airstream and a respect for all notes, finding that they all have a life of thier own. I've played with The Hoosic Falls Community Band, The Washington County Concert Band, The Marble Valley Swing Band and continue to play with The Cambridge Band. I've jammed with local musicians in local pubs and have jammed numerous times at The Vermont Jazz Center in Brattleboro (and look forward to jamming at Spencertown, NY, though rising gas prices can prove prohibitive). For the last couple of years, I've performed as a "busker" or street musician during Bennington, Vermont's "Funky Friday", entertaining the streets of Downtown.

Sean Jones
Born:
For the remarkable composer/trumpeter/educator/activist Sean Jones, the pursuit of Jazz is a most serious endeavor. Not just in terms of mastering the art form, but in its fullest meaning and purpose socially, philosophically and spiritually. Deeply influenced by his immersion in Gospel music in the church as a youth, Sean had an epiphany at the age of 19 while he was a student at Youngstown State University. That awakening occurred - as it has for so many serious-minded individuals both inside and outside of music - with his first hearing of the magnificent John Coltrane’s masterpiece A Love Supreme. “I was driving in my car at the time and I had to pull off the road
