Lauren Lee / Charley Sabatino: Dichotomies
by Budd Kopman
Vocalist extraordinaire Lauren Lee and the very active bassist Charley Sabatino, both New York City area residents, have collaborated to create the The Velocity Duo, and Dichotomies is their debut recording. For many readers, listening to music, perhaps especially jazz, is an immersion experience, but this music demands complete attention, and gets it with ...
Lauren Bush: All My Treasures
by Bruce Lindsay
"I love the human race," sings Lauren Bush on the opening track of All My Treasures, Bob Dorough's life-affirming “I've Got Just About Everything I Need." It's a positive sentiment, just one brief moment on an album that bursts with positivity, an album that sounds like the product of a mature and very experienced artist. Surprisingly, ...

Though he's logged considerable time in Sun Ra's Arkestra, Kenny Wolleson's Himalayas Collective, and groups led by Donald Ayler, Charles 'Bobo' Shaw, and Luther Thomas, On Kaa Davis is not just another avant-garde jazz dude. Carrera Quinta Big Band: Untitled

The future of big bands, it seems, may be trending southward. Exhibit A, submitted in 2014, was the superb SpokFrevo Orquestra from Brazil, and now comes the similarly impressive Carrera Quinta Big Band from Bogota, Colombia, of all places. Yes, amigos, it's clear that big-band jazz is alive and well south of the Equator. More than ...
Jasmine Power: Stories and Rhymes EP
by Phil Barnes
There's something wonderful about watching a major talent emerge blinking into the harsh spotlight of the public gaze for the first time. Of course, some find the experience so traumatic that they are never heard of again, others are unlucky finding themselves in the clutches of the unprincipled sharks that inhabit the arts every bit as ...
Jeremy Warren: I Can Do All Things
by Jack Bowers
If the title of drummer Jeremy Warren's debut album sounds a tad hyperbolic, that's because Warren has faced and overcome more than his share of adversity en route to living his dream. As a child, Warren was diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a rare and sometimes deadly disorder of the skin and mucous membranes. Told he might ...
Dave Anderson: Blue Innuendo
by Edward Blanco
A follow up to his highly-acclaimed debut album Clarity (Pony Boy Records, 2010), saxophonist Dave Anderson presents his second foray into the modern jazz landscape but this time, adding a tinge of the blues with the artful and engaging Blue Innuendo, offering a selection of original music that sizzles and swings from beginning to end. The Dan Trudell Trio: Dan Trudell Plays the Piano
by Angelo Leonardi
L'aver privilegiato a lungo l'Hammond B3 non ha indotto Dan Trudell ad abbandonare il pianoforte, strumento in cui s'è formato e diplomato alla North Texas State University.
