Zubatto Syndicate: Zubatto Syndicate

Read "Zubatto Syndicate" reviewed by Marshall Taylor

by Marshall Taylor
August 28, 2011

Seattle's Zubatto Syndicate--the brainchild of longtime resident and guitarist/composer Andrew Boscardin--are anything but the typical footprint in the sand. Pervading the musical spectrum to touch on genres as disparate as classical and ska punk, the group's self-titled debut is an epitome of the band itself: a radical fusion of familiar musical ideas esoteric enough to intrigue ...

Land Space: Suenos

by Dan Bilawsky
August 28, 2011

The members of Land Space know how to create memorable riffs and compelling solo statements, as demonstrated throughout this all-original program, but that isn't what makes this Barceona-based foursome's music unique. Land Space's ability to create dynamic arcs, with varying degrees of intensity within its well-paced pieces, is what makes this band stand out from the ...

Organik Vibe Trio: Moscow

Read "Moscow" reviewed by Nicholas F. Mondello

by Nicholas F. Mondello
August 27, 2011

The members of the Organik Vibe Trio bring highly diverse playing and recording experience--and writing talents--to Moscow. With a broad collective résumé, this empathic team drives hard--and quite beautifully--over ten highly inspired, enjoyable and swinging selections, with five standards and five originals. Al Dubin/Harry Warren's “Summer Night" kicks off the session, with vibraphonist/marimbaist ...

by Glenn Astarita
August 26, 2011

Dr. Kobi Arad hails from Israel, currently resides in New York City and received a doctorate in Contemporary Improvisation and Third Stream jazz, which are foundations and concepts that radiate on Sketches of Imaginary Landscapes. The keyboardist's improvisational skills and creative proclivities envelop this not-so-standard, jazz-based piano trio session. On the fringes of jazz-fusion, ...

John Brown: Dancing With Duke: An Homage To Duke Ellington

Read "Dancing With Duke: An Homage To Duke Ellington" reviewed by Dan Bilawsky

by Dan Bilawsky
August 24, 2011

The cover photo for this album is a bit misleading. John Brown stands with his left forearm pressed against a shiny black piano and the album title--Dancing With Duke: An Homage To Duke Ellington--resides, clear as day, in the upper right hand portion of the cover. If not for the personnel list, which almost blends into ...

Anthony Wilson: Campo Belo

Read "Campo Belo" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

by AAJ Italy Staff
August 23, 2011
