London Jazz Composers Orchestra: That Time

by John Sharpe
Issued to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the London Jazz Composers Orchestra, That Time uncovers a fascinating window on the early years of the pioneering company which are only sparsely documented elsewhere. The first two tracks from Berlin and Donaueschingen date from 1972, some six months after the LJCO's debut album Ode (Intakt, ...

Paul Rutherford

Born:
Born Greenwich, London, 29 February 1940, trombone, euphonium, piano. A stalwart of the early UK free scene who has played in, and contributed positively to, just about every available possibility, in more structured musics as well as obvious free situations: Globe Unity Orchestra, London Jazz Composer's Orchestra, Mike Westbrook Orchestra, and what appears to be a myriad of small groups, e.g.: Iskra 1903, duo with Paul Lovens, Quintet Moderne, and, recently, in trio with Anthony Braxton and Evan Parker. Perhaps most famous for solo trombone improvisations, and while many would dispute the fact that The Gentle harm of the bourgeoisie is the best solo trombone recording, it can't be far from the truth

The Last Night At The Old Place

by Duncan Heining
By any standards the release of The Last Night At The Old Place will prove to be one of archive releases of the year, second only, perhaps, to the 'Lost' Coltrane album. All power, therefore, to Mike Gavin who has inherited the Cadillac catalogue from the late John Jack with his first release of archive material. ...

by Nicola Negri
Attiva fin dai primi anni ...
Paul Rutherford: In Backward Times

by Enrico Bettinello
