John Geggie: Unexpected Conversations

Read "John Geggie: Unexpected Conversations" reviewed by John Kelman

Most cities have them: musicians who act like a lightning rod, focusing and driving their jazz scenes. In Ottawa, Canada, bassist John Geggie has been one of those significant focal points for two decades, but in particular over the past ten years. He's one of the founding organizers and faculty members of Jazzworks which, amongst other ...

Myron Walden Comes Full Circle with Smoke Debut Jan. 29 and 30

Myron Walden has achieved acclaim with his dynamic, propulsive and evocative jazz compositions, but on January 29 and 30, the saxophonist returns to his roots, playing two nights at New York City's Smoke. As a teenager, Walden spent every Friday and Saturday night in the snug jazz club Smoke (then Augie's), immersed in the music of ...

Myron Walden: Momentum

Read "Momentum" reviewed by John Kelman

Say It Again

Featuring the music of Myron Walden
Duration: 10:07

Myron Walden and his "Countrified" group perform "Say It Again" at New York's Jazz Gallery on May 16, 2009. Walden's first release as a leader in four years, Momentum (Demi Sound, 2009), was released earlier in November, a straight-ahead blowing session that, using Miles Davis' great 1960s quintet as its starting point, features trumpeter Darren Barrett, pianist David Bryant, bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Kendrick Scott.

It will be followed by two more albums in January, 2010: the funky, down-home Countrified, featuring the trio in this video (organist Jared Gold and drummer Kenneth Salters); and the more reflective In This World, with pianist Jon Cowherd, guitarist Mike Moreno, bassist Yasushi Nakamura, and drummer Obed Calviare.
