Raphaëlle Brochet

Born: February 3, 1982

Raphaëlle Brochet is a unique vocalist who grew up in the world of jazz and trained in South Indian Classical music. Her innate talent for improvisation and her exceptional sense of rhythm, combined with her mastering of solkattu and Persian singing makes her one of the most astounding vocalist of the Montreal Jazz and World Music scene. Born to musician parents, Raphaëlle Brochet grew up in the world of jazz and was destined to become a performer. She recorded her first album at the age of 17 with Floris Nico-Bunink (Mingus, Billy Holliday) under the label Daybreak. After intense training in various conservatories in France she received a full scholarship from Wesleyan University and got a Masters of Ethnomusicology specialized in Carnatic Music. Raphaëlle’s collaborations are incredibly diverse and include musicians from various backgrounds, but also film directors (Amin Moghadam), theatre directors (Patrick Palmer), comedians (Sam Magdi) and dancers (Anand Satchidanandan, Shoko Yamamuro). Raphaëlle revealed herself as a music director presenting her first creation Wings That We All Have in 2010, and recently released an album with the collectif Arometis (Vision Diversité-K.Pone)

Dan Garmon

Born: August 9

Dan is a NYC based music director, multi-instrumentalist, and educator. He has had the great honor of working with the likes of Brian Lowdermilk & Kait Kerrigan, Mary- Mitchell Campbell, David O, and many others. He completed a Bachelor of Music, double majoring in piano performance & jazz drumset performance at McGill University's Schulich School of Music in 2012, graduating with distinction in piano. During his studies he was the drummer for the internationally renowned McGill Jazz One, the school's premiere jazz ensemble. In addition to music directing and playing in pits, he has had an incredibly diverse wealth of musical experiences; he actively plays/listens to anything from the generally-regarded-as-somewhat-pretentious (solo classical piano / chamber music) to generally-regarded-as-less-relevant-than-it-once-may-have-been (jazz combos and big bands of all sizes) to hopelessly-nostalgic-for-your—teens-and-having-all- the-feels (pop punk & emo/screamo/mathcore) to the somewhat-off-the-beaten- path (Indian classical music, free-form improvisation and artistic installations), to the depths-of-the-bizarre-and-fantastic (modern extended-technique 12-tone prepared piano pieces, rolling marbles and tennis balls inside instruments) and everything in between. Dan also has many years of experience teaching dozens of students of all ages (5- 65) and experiences (complete beginner to university level and beyond) in most any style of music

John Labelle

Born: May 12, 1968

Born in Montreal, John Labelle has been a jazz fan for as long as he can remember. From an early age, he listened to the great big band vocalists, including Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Rosemary Clooney; and, of course, Frank Sinatra, who would later become one of his greatest influences. To be close to the music he loved, Labelle landed a job at the famous Biddle's Jazz and Ribs nightclub, an institution in Montreal for the last twenty years. Working there, Labelle came into contact with some of Montreal's finest musicians whom he listened to and learned from. He quickly gained a reputation for knowing all the lyrics, and could often be heard singing along with the evening's performers

Karen Young

Considered one of Canada's great jazz singers and Fusion/World specialist, Medieval music autodidact, songwriter, composer, arranger, Karen Young's vocal range and control and her passion for music have enabled her to attain success in various musical genres. Awarded Artist for Peace in 2003, Karen also received RIDEAU Career Prize the same year - Quebec's venues and events programmers professional association.

Album producer/coproducer, Karen also wrote, composed or arranged her eight CD titles under her label URSH Records since its inception in 1992, among which Canticum Canticorum - a specialized Medieval / Mediterranean / Jazz Fusion CD than sold almost 10,000 to date in Québec only.

Conductor, leader and musical director to most of her live performances since the 1970's, Karen YOUNG likes to learn and perform music in all/most its different genres: Jazz, Latin, Cuban, Mediterraneen, Early Music, and the list grows

Joel Miller

Winner of the 2013 Juno Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Recording, Montreal saxophonist Joel Miller marries his awe-inspiring technique and boundless sense of musical adventure with a pop musician’s desire to make music that moves people.

His compositions are inspired by the melodic simplicity and emotional depth of American folk music, and they’ve been praised by Downbeat as “passionate and creative, melodic yet exploratory.” His free-spirited eclecticism has been equally lauded by the magazine for “illustrating the cross-pollination emblematic of the Montreal jazz community.” Dave Douglas calls Miller "a breath of fresh air and one of the great pleasures of the Montreal scene."

David Ryshpan

Born: August 19, 1985

David Ryshpan is a Canadian pianist, composer and arranger. Beginning his studies in Toronto at the age of 6, his development led him to Montreal where he graduated from the McGill Jazz Performance program. He excelled in his studies and was able to learn first hand from eminent jazz musicians in several cities. He has participated in notable workshops including the 2005 Banff Centre Workshop for Jazz and Creative Music, led by Dave Douglas, the 2006-07 BMI Jazz Composer's Workshop in New York, directed by Jim McNeely and Michael Abene, and the 2007 Red Bull Music Academy in Toronto. These workshops reflect David's diverse accomplishments, from small group improvisation to large ensemble arrangements and compositions to electronic music production

Fieldtrip

Fieldtrip is a Montreal based jazz trio with an extensive and diverse repertoire comprised primarily of original compositions and reinterpretations of music from a variety of genres including jazz, folk, hip-hop, rock and popular music. All of their music serves as a vehicle for spontaneous self expression and interaction through the energetic and trusting relationship they have fostered since their formation in September, 2005. In 2005, Fieldtrip was awarded a professional development grant by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts to record an album of their original works. This album features a diverse array of compositions by double bassist Pat Reid written in response to his experiences volunteering and traveling in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia in the winter of 2006
