RelativE ResonancE: RelativE ResonancE
by Budd Kopman
With RelativE ResonancE, composer and drummer Devin Gray has staked out new, exciting and different territory than that explored in his highly acclaimed previous album, Dirigo Rataplan. Whereas the earlier band (saxophonist Ellery Eskelin, trumpeter Dave Ballou and bassist Michael Formanek) emphasized improvisation within group and compositional boundaries, the music for the new group ...
Mario Pavone: Blue Dialect
by Mark Corroto
Gone are the days where a jazz trio maintains a three month residency, playing nightly in a club. Nor are there world traveling units that refine their skills nightly on the road, working and reworking material. There will be no more piano trios led by the likes of Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans. But have no ...
Ingrid Laubrock Anti-House: Roulette of the Cradle
by Stefano Merighi
Kris Davis Infrasound: Save Your Breath
by Glenn Astarita
Nascent New York-based pianist, composer Kris Davis presents a musical journey that may be akin to navigating through a dense forest via snaking trails, rolling hills and dusky caves. With a first-class supporting cast , the pianist's comprehensive works emphasize her luminous imaginative powers. Several movements are fashioned with cascading horns passages, supple deviations and variable ...
Kris Davis Infrasound: Save Your Breath
by Vincenzo Roggero
Insolita ...
Michael Musillami: Pride
by Alberto Bazzurro

by Eyal Hareuveni
The international 3D trio was initiated by Polish, Denmark-based rising trumpeter Tomasz Dąbrowski during his 2012 visit to New York that already yielded a duo with drummer Tyshawn Sorey (Steps, For Tune, 2013). Canadian, New York-based pianist Kris Davis and American drummer (with Nordic roots) Andrew Drury join Dąbrowski in a set of eight concise, snapshot-like ...

Eric Revis: Trajectory From The Tradition
by R.J. DeLuke
The development of an individual voice on the contrabass is important to Eric Revis, one of the strongest players on the scene. His power and musicianship has endeared him to some of the finer musicians, and bands, in jazz. But Revis isn't content to let things lie there. Not that he has to be ...
