King Pleasure

King Pleasure - Vocalese singer - (1922 - 1982) Vocalese is a term given to a small niche style of jazz and blues music. It is created by giving a vocal chorus to the instrumental improvisation played by a jazz or blues master. The vocal chorus is in tempo and syntax, and fits greatly with the ideas of the originator of the solo. It is a very difficult and exacting task and very few can master this art. The first was probably Eddie Jefferson, but the most famous of its practitioners was a guy known by the flowery and imaginative name of King Pleasure. The King came to be at the legendary amateur night at the Apollo Theater in New York City one night in late 1951

Arising out of bebop vocals, a number of singers in the 1950s began to replicate famous instrumental solos with the human voice. The practice, initiated by Eddie Jefferson, King Pleasure and Annie Ross was known as vocalese and reached its peak in the extraordinary recordings of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. La nicchia del canto jazz maschile

Read "La nicchia del canto jazz maschile" reviewed by Angelo Leonardi

Allan Harris e Fred Farell ...

Ten Men

My unscientific estimate contends that there are three female vocalists for every male vocalist. This does not mean that there are no male vocalists out there as evidenced by these ten examples. They just take a little longer to accumulate. Jay Leonhart and Tomoko Ohno Don't You Wish Chancellor Music

Giacomo Gates: What Time Is It?

2:02.75. That might have been what longshot “Giacomo" (at 50-1) took to win the Kentucky Derby back in 2005. However, it will take longer--just short of an hour--to realize that this thoroughbred Giacomo rides home a winner with What Time Is It?. Hold the oats and roses and grab the ear buds. Giacomo ...

L'ultimo hipster.

Camille Bertault: En Vie

Read "En Vie" reviewed by Angelo Leonardi
